ADJECTIVES AND ITS TYPES
Definition: A word that is used to describe or qualify or modify or add to the meaning of a noun or pronoun is known as an adjective.
Example:
  1. There are three, small, black, wooden chairs in a room.
  2. big, red, dump truck hit a parked, little, red car.
  3. I saw a tall, handsome, ethical boy in blue jeans.
Note: Bold letters are adjectives because in the first example three adjectives are used for noun chair in the second example three adjectives used for car and truck and in the last four adjectives describe boy.
TYPES OF ADJECTIVES
There are several types of adjectives.
1. Descriptive (Quality of) Adjective: Adjective which shows description about noun or pronoun known as a descriptive adjective.
Example:
  1. He is an honest man.
  2. She is a beautiful girl.
  3. This is a small, clean and comfortable house.
Note: Given bold words are descriptive adjectives.
2. Adjectives of Quantity: Adjective which shows the quantity of a thing or nature of quantity known as an adjective of quantity.
Example:
  1. I ate some rice.
  2. He showed much patience.
  3. She has little intelligence.
Note: Above bold words show the quantity of noun.
3. Adjective of number: Adjective which indicates number or order known as an adjective of number.
Example:
  1. The hand has five fingers.
  2. There are seven days in a week.
  3. All men must die.
Note: Bold words indicate numbers.
4. Demonstrative adjective:Adjective which points out a person or thing known as a demonstrative adjective.
Example:
  1. This boy is stronger than Hari.
  2.  These mangoes are sour.
  3.  I hate such things.
Note: Bold words are demonstrative adjectives.
5. Interrogative adjective: What, which, and whose, when they are used with nouns to ask questions are called an interrogative adjective.
Example:
  1. What manner of man is he?
  2. Which way shall we go?
  3. Whose book is this?
Note: Bold words are interrogative adjectives.
6. Possessive Adjective: Adjective which shows the state of possession of nouns is known as a possessive adjective. Mainly Possessive adjectives are her, my, his, it’s, ours, theirs and yours.
Example:
  1. Where is my notebook?
  2. This is our property.
  3. Is this book belongs to you?
Note: Bold words are possessive adjectives because they show possession.
7. Distributive Adjective: Adjective which demonstrates the distributive state of nouns. Distributive adjectives refer to each one of a number.
Example:
  1. Each boy must take his turn.
  2. Either pen will do.
  3. Neither accusation is true.
Note: Each, either and neither are distributive adjectives.
8. Proper Adjective: Adjectives formed from proper nouns known as a proper adjective.
Example:
  1. I like Indian tea.
  2. I am Pakistani.
  3. I like Chinese dishes.
Note: Given bold words are proper adjectives.
9. Indefinite Adjectives: adjective which is not explicit is known as the indefinite adjective.
Example:
  1. There are several mistakes in your exercise.
  2. I have taught you many things.
  3. Here are some apples.
Note: Given bold words are indefinite adjectives because the definite quantity is not expressed in these examples.
